Which tires to buy ?????
I've a '99 -SS needing new boots.............I'm now looking at F1-GS-D3 or BFG-KDW.I was leaning to Yok-AVS-ES100 but a tire rep told me they get hard and feathered edges after only 5000km.
I'm open to suggestions ............
Regards
Al

I have the GS-D3's and really like them. They are really fun in the rain! This will be my 3rd season on them.

triple-black- 2000 CamaroSS convertible
AVS ES-100 are not in the same ballpark in terms of performance. A similar tire in the Yoko would be the AVS sport.
I'd go w/ the GY F1-GS-D3
Also since you are from Canada, to avoid customs on shipping tires, you should consider
www.talontire.com (best to call... web prices aren't always upto date)
www.1010tires.caEugenio_SS
almost stock triple-black 2000 SS convertible with 17x11s on all 4 w/ 315s at the track or on the street with 18x10.5s on all 4 w/ 315s: (1), (2)

Yup. Get the GS-D3, you won't be dissapointed. I wasn't. You can accellerate almost as quickly on wet pavement as on dry. As if you really want to drive in the wet! They are also very sticky in the dry. That's what I pout on my car.

Folks
It seems as though the Goodyears are the way to go so far................
I believe they are available locally at close to $1400 CAN (installed)in May at sale time which is a fine price ,I believe.
I am continuing to keep my ear to the ground ,since the need for tires gives me a couple of months of leeway.
Thanks so much for the input, comments, and re-affirming that I was going down the correct road.
I'm new to this forum and appreciate the clear, concise input.

Make sure you check the online sites for ordering tires. Usually you can get them a good deal cheaper, about 25%. Local shops normally charge the same amount to install them. If they are offering free install then you will be charged more for the tires.

NBM- '98 Ram Air Formula
I sugget the BFGs. I ran a couple of sets of the KDWs in the classic tread patten and got great traction, straightline and turning. You can also get them with the new tread pattern that I think looks pretty cool...or at least different!

They may be cheaper, but I don't think they are better.

How does the nitto 555 match up?

I've got the 555's up front and they seem pretty good, I've got the kuhmo mx's out back and I LOVE THEM! I never really spin unless I try to. My launch is always pretty damn good because of the awesome grip of these tires. They're cheap too! I'm taking mine into the 3rd season as well, I predict they'll run me until the end of the summer.

i have Nitto 555's in the front and Federal SS 595 in the rear. all four are 275/40/17's, mounted on 17*9 wheels...
the Nittos ran around $150 each and the Federals around $100 each
i just bought and mounted some Nitto 555r's Drag Radials (315/35/17) on my extra pair of rims (17*9) since summer season is here, and they were about $170 each...

Different tires are good at different things. There is no "best".
If wet or allseason performance is needed from the tire, its dry performance will suffer.
The Goodyears on my friend's SS are great in the wet but felt only average in the dry. Felt like pushing them hard (and I mean really hard) would tear them up.
My 2 cents
