I have heard of what you have described. It appears as small leak on the bead where some corrosion as taken place.

Yup. If rust exist in your rims it will definitely make some chips breaks causing your tire not to fit the rims.

pitting in the aluminum can cause this as well

Yup. We see this all the time where I work (Goodyear). Corrosion where the bead of the tire seals against the rim. Usually they clean up and seal well, unless it is a PT Cruiser!

ive dealt with this before, usually on my older birds. I broke the tire down, just cleaned up on the corrided area as well as i could and used some silicone caulkin (black) before airing tire back up. It may not always completely stop the leak but it will slow it drastically.

ha, i worked for goodyear too for 3 years. true that about pt's and all chryslers.
but yeah, dismount the tires and clean the bead of the rim with a die grinder, your best bet it to just take off all the chrome. dont worry youll never see it. then when the bead is nice and smooth, coat it with bead sealer. almost always works, depending on how bad the rim is of course. but yours doesnt sound that bad. goodyear ususally charges about $26 per tire. alot cheeper than new rims if you arent ready to purchase them yet.

One of mine has a bend in the lip and that bastage will go down on me all the time, but like stated above that was the final justification for the TTM's
