275 is width in millimeters, 40 is height in percentage of width. The tire is 275x.40mm tall. Get it?

295 is the widest recommended tire. It is possible to go larger, but you shouldn't

gotcha, im about to order some c6's and was going to get 18x9.5 on the front and 18x10.5 on ther rear. so 275-40-18 on the front and 295-35-18 on the rear sound like a good set up for the street?? not sure about tires yet but probably yokohama avs on front with nitto drag radials on the rear.

Those will be too tall. the aspect ratio is correct for a 17 inch wheel, but need to be less for an 18. You need to have less sidewall to come out the right height since the rim is bigger. It would be a 275/35 18 on the front, and I don't know the numbers off the top of my head for the rear. I would personally use the size you stated on the rear for looks, then lower the rear to make it look right, too little tire would look funny. Speedo calibration would be needed though

That's what I would do. The front come out to the right size and the rear will be a little tall

Someone is gonna jump in eventually and say you can use a 305 if you wanna, so I'll go ahead and say it, lol. Just don't do 315s on less than an 11 inch rim. People do, but it looks gay and isn't recommended.
