is there a large spare tire to clear big brakes?
I'm looking to buy a Firebird with larger Baer brakes. The stock spare tire won't fit.
Is there a larger...perhaps truck spare tire (5 lug) that will clear big brakes?

not saying it will work or is even recommended in this situation but in a pinch I've mounted a smaller spare on "backwards" so the dished part of the rim is facing out to clear the brakes, I wouldn't take it on a highway but it should get you home, as long as the rim is hubcentric and the lugnuts are tight I don't see an issue with it. I would defineatly do a driveway test fit on something like this before depending on it. If you try this be sure to let us know how it worked for you.
personally I don't carry a spare or jack, just a tire plug kit and portable compressor, that takes care of 90% of the flat tire situations, even if it's not plugable most leaks are slow and pumping it up will hold for a short trip home or to a friends house. I do have extra rims/tires at home in case I do have a bad blow out to hold me over until I can get a new tire. In all my years and all my cars I've only had 1x tire that couldn't be fixed with a plug and or compressor and it was a brand new tire that I believe the shop damaged all the sidewall cords when installing on my rim, I went around a corner the day i got the tires installed and it literally blew out the sidewall.Last edited by TransAmX2; 08-03-2011 at 11:00 AM.

I am sure one will fit...but it won't fit in the spare tire compartment.
