spacers
i was thinking about some spacers, so i can put a wider tire on back and still use my stock wheels, but with the torque of the gto is this a good idea???

Aslong as you get longer studs spacers are fine. Not sure if these will fit a GTO but these are the ARP studs I replaced my stockers with:

which length for how thick of a spacer? whats a good thickness for say the rear of a stock 01 SS rims 10 spoke?

The part number I posted above is usually good for most applications.
As far as you query you should not need any spacers for stock SS rims.
