    Exclamation scratched rims

my rim is scrated, it looks like they were droped on some gravel or something, regular polishing won't help, i was just wondering if there is some sort of filler i could use. i don't have the slightest clue besides spend a a$$ load of $ taking it to a shop to have them ground down then repolished

just find an image hosting website like photobucket and upload pics on that site then you can wrap image brackets around the photo URL

Three of our rims had curb rash when we bought the car. I masked off each rim with duct tape to protect it in the areas that needed repaired. The deeper marks I touched up with a scotch-brite disc on my angle grinder. I then sanded the marks out with 400 wet, followed by a buff and polish.

There is a slight color difference between the clearcoated rim and the areas I cleaned up, but the rims look a whole bunch better than they did. I had posted a similar question around 2 months ago and really did not receive a better answer.

I suppose you could try to apply clear and blend it in -- but I'd be afraid of it lifting and looking even worse than what you have. If you smooth, buff and polish the damaged areas, it is really hard to tell the difference unless you are looking right at the repair. Of course, your rims may be more damaged than mine were.

Others have suggested removing the clear completely and then polishing the entire rim. More upkeep, but I don't think you can beat the look of polished aluminum.

We can help you much better if you have a pic of the rim. We need to know how much damage it took. By the way, what have you done to it lately?

This is probably the worst area of damage on our rims. When finished, the repaired area was a bit lower than the original contour, but blended in well.

Ouch -- that looks like the clear is spidered. They may need to be stripped down and either polished or re-cleared.

what would cause those? so does that mean the rims are not scratched? what could be used to fix that?

It's hard to tell from your pics, but the clear may be lifting from the wheel surface and checking. If the marks were simply light scratches (not through the clearcoat), you would be able to repair the damage with fine sandpaper and polish. Can you catch the scratches with a fingernail... or are they smooth?
