    Problem with Tire....

I purchased a set of Hankook(Ventus series)tires. One front tire has developed a bubble on the sidewall of the tire.Has anyone experienced this before?and if so..what causes this?Is this an isolated problem or is it due to manufacturer? The tires have under 10,000 miles on them and otherwise are in great shape....just curious if I can call the manufacturer..I am not really happy with them performance wise..traction really is subpar...thanks....

a bubble in the sidewall is caused when there is a tear on the inner liner. couple things can cause thiss:

bead tear when installing the tire onto the wheel
impact fracture from hitting a pothole and folding the tire inward and tearing the inner liner
imporper sealing of the inner liner to the base of the tire.

the inner liner is bascially an inner tube melted to the body of the tire. rubber is naturally porous. hence needing the sealer. that's why you have to check your tire pressure regularly.

Some times they do delaminate, had it happen on a set along time ago on a 86 Grand Prix.

dunno, but there will be weak spot. you might be able to get by ok if you baby it, but for the cost of a tire vs cost of damage should it blow, get it reaplaced.

You could try to contact them.

I am sure a huge tire company would be more than willing to replace a defective product or at the very least give you credit towards a replacement!
