Light Pewter Metallic- 2001 Camaro SS
With just about everything being black on your car, IMO i think a chrome lip would be something to seriously consider. The chrome lip will really set the wheels off.

i was thinkning powder coating... how hard is it to paint or powder coat over the chrome? Does it just need to be scuffed up or completely off?

To powder over chrome, it would depend on what effect you were looking for. If you wanted a mirror black, you would blast the wheels. If you were looking to black chrome the wheels with powder, you would only need to clean them very well before the process.
Black chrome is technically a candy color. It does what it does due to what is underneath it. You would want a nice chrome base if you were to choose black chrome. If there are any blemishes you would not want to go this route.
Short answer is, NO you dont have to take the chrome completely off the wheels UNLESS they are flaking already. If they are flaking, you would need to remove all the chrome.

well that answers all my questions..... gotta remove all the chrome. The inside of the wheels are starting to peel.... Does anyone have any idea what the price would be for the chrome to be removed and powder coated?

It all depends. I personally would take those to a pro grade blaster. At this time we are not set up with a huge blaster (coming to a triple h coating near you
I usually pay about 15 to 20 per wheel for blasting, and coating would normally run around 40 to 50 per if you just wanted a gloss black. You may get away with it a little cheaper if there is a chrome shop near you, they can pull it off with chemicals, usually alot cheaper than blasting them.
Somewhere between 50 and 70 per I would guess, but it depends alot on what color you want, and how bad the wheels are to start with. Believe it or not, the more the chrome is peeling the cheaper it should be, the easyer it is to get off.
You can also pop off the chrome yourself with muratic acid

The previous owner i guess never cleaned the inside of the wheels. on every wheels the chrome is starting to come up. also were the center cap pops on a few wheels are peeling under that.
