    255 45 17 is the widest recommended tire size for a 8.5" rim. You could go up to a 275 40 17.

U think some 245/40/17s would be a good size?

245/45-17 would be a good size... not 40.

245 45 17 would be 25.7" tall. Going to a 40 series would reduce the height by about 1/2" or so. It would be too short. Remember the series (40) is a ratio. So a 40 series would be OK on a 375 or 315 but too short on a 245.

    245 45 17 and 275 40 17 are both 25.7" tall.

exactly... and the 315/40-18 would be too tall... you would want 315/30-18 like i have

as for rubbing, only in the back i had to massage the inner fenders w/ a BFH
the fronts can take wider than the rear.... fronts were plug + play
