lug nut covers--black plastic sucky things!
hey guys--sure this is a common problem--everytime someone must take my wheels off to do work, black lug cover things are lost or spin loose shortly after... i see that gm wants 3-4 bucks a piece...i'm missing 8 and sure to need more down the road.. Anyone know of a cheaper solution; or better yet, a higher quality cap that wont break/spin off?? I don't like the bare lugnut look and would prefer them to be black, silver/chrome might be ok.. so i need cheaper plastic, or nice metal--any ideas?

Whoever is working on your car is tightening them to tight or not enough.
Go with a set of Gorilla lug nuts. They are tough and will not rust.

08 Mustang GT/CS Blue- 2002 Trans Am WS6 traded
I know; but for things like new tires i can't help but let someone do it and it seems no matter who does it; i always lose a few. Don't need lugnuts--but thanks for the suggestion. wish afterthoughts sold just the caps w/out including lugs... maybe a phone call could fix that...

After I lost two I started using locktite, haven't lost one since. Did you try gmpartsdirect, or the dealer? $4 is a lot for a little plastic cap.

No problem. Glad to hear you found what you were looking for pretty cheap.
Gotta love Ebay.

Why not take em off before letting someone else work on the car, then torque em back on yourself properly?

There are plenty of chrome available, heck plenty of black too, but what about silver? I thought the painted SS wheels were the most common, but I still can't find caps for them. Ebay has one set for 30 some dollars, i'm better off going to the dealership..
I'm not stressing though, I have these waiting to be mounted in another month or so:
