You have very many choices.
Most popular are Corvette wheels and CCW's.
17x9 fit with no issues. 18's require attention to the backspacing, more so for the front then the rear. You can put on a 295 size tire with no issues but 305-315 you are looking at a BFH mod.
I go for the unique. I have the YearOne 17x9 Snowflake wheels. Love 'em. I think they look good on 4th Gens, but that's just my opinion.
Tires you're going to get a wide range of opinions on what's best. I'm running Nitto 555's all year because I live in the South and it very rarely gets below 40* let alone snow here. So I'll default to others on what they use.http://www.ls1.com/forums/f7/my-6-liter-build-174257/

have been through many brands of tires on my trans am currently at 263,000 miles. currently using BF Goodrich G-FORCE SPORT COMP2 TIRES. they handle well especially in rainy sw fla.,look good but like Scott I like the look of those Nitto tires. Have a friend in tire and wheel business and have sampled many wheels over the years but have not found a wheel that i like better than factory chrome i have now. will have to take a look at those corvette wheels tho. good luck with TA.

where in Fl?
I live near Mobile and it always rains. They handle very well in wet. My first outing with them was in the rain as soon as they were mounted. They are decent at the track and have lasted far longer than I expected. But then again my car has spent more time on jack stands these last 2.7 yrs. Tires have been on for 4 total and still no dry rot or cracks in the side walls that normally happens when they sit this long.

FORT MYERS. 2.7 YRS? WHERE'S THE FUN IN THAT! Nothing better than top down ,tunes playing, wind in your [thinning] hair. track days are over but use to drag on long island at islip. best friend had a 1968 pontiac tempest custom S. only one i've ever seen. it was a GTO with a bench seat[so his girlfriends could sit close]. can't remember but i believe best times were in mid 11's.

I also recommend the BF Goodrich G-FORCE SPORT COMP2's. They offer superb grip on dry and wet roads. The only con is the road noise.
