Lightest wheels available
I currently have the 17x9/9.5? zr1's on my car, and these are not terribly heavy w/tires on them at moment, but I wanted to know what kind of wheel would be lighter than this in the 16" realm, yet still strong enough to handle some spirited autox like driving...

My SSR GT-2H's, 18x10 weigh 22.9lbs. SSR makes a light wheel, you can get 1 at about 20lbs in the size your are looking for.
I swear a saw someone making a 17" that was like 19 and change.

well i did find the 16x7.5 on tirerack.com at just 17 lbs. That sounds pretty good, other than that it is probably just welds that are lighter, but not good for road race/autox... but yeah, 16 or 17 would work for me... i think, prefer a 16x8 though for a little more tire on the ground

An 8 seems pretty narrow to me.
Either way I highly encourage checking wheel and tire combos and how much rubber you want to get to the road along with weight trade-off. Know the combo before you buy the wheel.

That's kinda what i'm starting to see now, but it's just that the wheels i have in the front right now are 9.5 i believe, and they just seem too big to be in the front...

I just looked back at my receipt to find my wheel widths. Duh!
Rears
Kumho 305/30R18 98W 10.5
SSR 18x10.5" GT2-H RIMs ....$1000
Fronts
Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S 255/35ZR18
SSR 18x9.5" GT2-H RIMs ...$840
I like my combo...profiles are within 3/16"...look identical to most people!
And my speedo is like 1.5% faster than true speed!

Yeah, i saw that but w/o driving it w/11s in the front it seems like it should have a 2 mile turning radius, lol... I've just been having trouble w/the front wheels seeming like they want to scrub when I back out of my driveway, but now that I swapped out my limited slip for a tru trac, it may have fixed that (the limited slip unit was starting to bind i think... and keep both rear wheels locked up... like a spool or something).

I'm sure that's a nice looking set up. Kinda pricey though, anyway, I bought the car w/these wheels on it, so I don't have that luxury, lol. As for what I'm looking for, I want it to be able to handle very well on the street, not so much for drag racing. I just want to know that if I take a corner hard on the street, it can handle it, and not spin out or something ridiculous. Ideally I'd like to do road racing, but that's just a dream, I even feel myself going broke just dreaming about it! haha. So yeah, for as rarely as I will drive my car hard, I just want to know that it can take it... keeping in mind lighter wheels are better for bumpy roads (unsprung weight thing..). Hope this helps you all to help me.

If you want to handle turns my front is as narrow as I would go. You can get what you need 8 a 8.5 rim. But I'd look at the specs at the tire rack...looking around 265 to 275 for a 40 profile. Down to around a 235 on a 30. You can find charts to tell you how wide in inches that is.

Yeah, I've been doing that stuff, tirerack has a nice setup as far as wheel info. and stuff. They just don't have anything on zr1's (what I have), so I can only go w/other f-body sites, I read they are about 20.5 lbs each, that's pretty good for a 17x9.5 compared to others if you ask me!

If you are just getting rubber, pick a few brands from sites having a collection or from what brands you have a preference for. Then go straight to the Manufacturer's site! The specs are more available and more accurate! I know Kumho's site is easy to navigate.

I never knew that... I may be needing to get some new tires in this coming year or two depending on how everything else fares right now.
