    burnout question

Ok guys I've got a stupid question but it must be asked. For an art project I've got to create a smoke effect using my tires(I'm aware there are other ways but this seems to be the easiest). My plan was to just dump water under my tires and do a brake stand. But I've heard of people pouring bleach/something like that under their tires to get better results. So 2 questions,1. will this give me alot of smoke and 2. will it put significant wear on the tires as I am using drag radials.(275/45/r16) toyo proxy tq's

Just use water and a nice flat surface. I work for a tire company, just burn them it wont make much difference in tread. Brakestand for about 30 seconds and it should be good.

    Been through several.

    Nitto DR's (soft, expected)
    Continentals
    SumiHomo
BFG KDW's (4th gear for 20 seconds ate half the tread)

    To name a few.
Search 4th gear burnout on YouTube. Those would be continentals.

Oil and snow tires make for a nice smokey burnout. Smear a little petroleum jelly just behind the wheelwell to allow easy removal of the burned rubber. Defenders 245/50/ZR16's allowed for repeated multiple hundreds of feet 4th gear (0.70:1) burnouts.

I just wish I had an extra pair of tires I could roast and not be paranoid about. These tires are soft so I'm scared of ruining them. what would be a healthy amount of time for a brake stand? Also how long is too long?

After installing a line lock, my strong urge to do smokey burnouts has been limited to three (3) occasions. One being our departure from Spazapalooza (as required by the rules). All three have been of short duration and have not resulted in noticeable tire wear on our Falkens.

Someone posted a vid or pic recently that included the use of a smoke bomb behind the tires -- and it looked pretty good. Have you considered trying that so as not to tear up your tires too bad? If not, use water or bleach and choose your road surface carefully so as to minimize the destruction.

    a link would be appreciated.
I'm partial to using the bleach since I've got some lying around, as long as it isn't harmful. From my understanding bleach is a highly concentrated base/chemical. So when you add lots of heat to a chemical like that temperature from the burnout itself + the reaction with the heat and bleach = a volcano under the tires
that's why i'm hesitating from doing it, also because of the fact i've never done a proper brake stand before, besides for when I went to the track(in which case I did about 4-5sec burnouts out of the waterbox achieving no smoke at all).

you don't need a 30 second brake stand to get smoke like you want...
