Offset is what really plays into this. I have seen as big of 20s on these car but that is fairly uncommon. This chart may help.

7.5" ..... +35 to +45 mm .... 215, 225, 235
8.0" ..... +38 to +55 mm .... 225, 235, 245
8.5" ..... +38 to +45 mm .... 235, 245, 255
9.0" ..... +38 to +56 mm .... 255, 265, 275
9.5" ..... +38 to +56 mm .... 255, 265, 275, 285
10.0" ... +38 to +48 mm .... 265, 275, 285

Stick with 17s imo. I like 17x9 up front and 17x11 out back.

I have a 2 inch lip in the front and a 3 inch lip rear on my car. I made no modifications to get them to fit. It is all about the offset. Most of the high end wheels come with a decent sized lip. If you are going for a budget wheel you can always buy a vette wheel from OEWheels. They have a lip on them. TTII and TTMs are both options as well.

Mine have a lip too, mine are what are considered deep dish in the rear. I didn't have to alter the car at all.

There are far more variety and cheaper tires that fir 17in rims. Tires or 18's limit you considerably.
