Any of you encountered this?
Alright... so you've just bought new wheels and tires for your car, you have them professionally installed and it looks great. But you get on the highway and around 65-70MPH the car shakes... I know all the culprits that may cause this as far as the wheels not being balanced, Hub Centric, etc.
Here's the deal. I've had the balance checked twice. Turns out fine. I had bought hub centric rings but the installer never installed them and by the time I had noticed it'd been way too long to ask them where they were.
The wheels were bran new (Ruff 280's). Do you think it may be the centric being off of the wheels? the difference is (stock hub: 70.10mm, Wheel: 73.10mm) not a ton there. My only other idea is I have a bad wheel somewhere.
Anyone else encountered a similar problem?
Or what do you guys think?
Thanks a ton!!!Last edited by architect7; 02-25-2009 at 07:46 PM.

these cars are lug centric; centered by the lugnuts. the hub ring helps some.
you may have a slightly bent wheel or out of round tire.Cold Air Intake, Muffler Delete, Vinci High Performance Dual Valve Springs, Hardened Pushrods, Yella Terra 1.85 Rockers, Some Hydropdipped Stuff, Strut Tower Brace, Some SS Badges, boost/vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, some checkered stripes, drilled/slotted rotors, ZL1addons Stealth wickerbill, Ruxifey LED side markers

The Ruffs use a 5x120 bolt pattern where as the F-body bolt pattern is 5x120.65
Obviously it does work but you need the hubcentrc rings.
I've had my 5x120 wheels with hubcentric rings on for 4 years now and no vibration problems.Craig

At 60mph factory diameter wheels are turning 813rpm. It would be like having a 1/8 flat spot on a tire of sorts

So you're saying that little fraction sure would cause it to shake huh? okay. I've bought the rings and hopefully I'll have them on this week and I'll keep you all updated.
And you're saying those wheels rotate 13.5 rev per sec? that seems high to me, but if you say so, I take your word.Last edited by architect7; 02-23-2009 at 09:20 AM.

Wow... ha ha. you nailed it. I did the math and you're right on.
60MPH = 316,800feet/hour
so, 60MPH = 88feet/second
our wheels are 25.7" in diameter so the circumference is 80.7" = 6.73feet
Divide the 88feet/second by the 6.73feet = 13.1 revs/sec.
Sorry I doubted you. ha ha

Be aware that when you go to install the wheels with the rings on that they will be very tight I actually had to tighten them down untill the wheel touched the rotor using the lugs. Then backed them off, snugged them, dropped the car and torqued them to the correct 100 ft lbs in the star patern.

I didn't experience this with my R280's. Since I've had them, my car has never ran smoother. Even at speeds over 100 is super smooth. The hub rings came with my wheels, should have came with yours as well if it was known what they were being installed on.

I'm confused... are you running your rings with your wheels. I had a horrible experience just getting the d@mn wheels from the seller. I wasn't going to expect them to send the rings too... honestly i figured I'd be doing well to get two and a half of the wheels from them...

There was a ring packaged with each wheel. They were almost thrown away; one of the guys were about to chunk it in the trash and the owner walked over and said they were needed. Two of the wheels had already been put on my car and they had to remove them to attach the rings to the hub. It was a nightmare getting the wheels, too many distributor/dealer parties. After two weeks from ordering, I finally had them. I suppose it was worth it though.

Be happy it only took you two weeks! After about two months and finally the threat of small claims court I got them. They arrived at the wrong address on top of all things. At the time I said it wasn't worth it, but after a years worth of cooling down, I'm glad I have them.
Thanks for the info, your car looks great.
