I guess the same reason he uses mud grip tires.

Read "Rim Width Range"... There is a lot of leeway when dealing with tire/rim size and the things to keep in mind are of course performance and look. They give some examples too, Corvettes and M3's.
    1. In terms of performance your best bet is to stay within the specified range. A tire to wide as well as a tire that's too narrow can hurt performance in many ways and can sometimes be dangerous.
    2. In terms of look,.. to each his own lol

would be a lot smarter move than putting 315s on a 9" wheel... at least the tire is mounted properly.

True. I just can't see spending the xtra dough on a set of 11" wheels to put 275/40's on them, which would look pretty strange. It's one thing I can't stand is when someone buys wide wheels and shorts them by putting some skinny 'ole tires them. It would make more sense to go 9".

i like wide meat... but as long as it fits properly... i tend to put the widest on the rim... but won't go over what the tires are meant to... just don't get any gain.

What kind ... uh ...and how big of MEAT is of no concern to me.

And I apologize for the mud grip tires comment, I just noticed in your avatar that you are from Canada, so those would be SNOW tires I guess?

It's always a good thing to be safe. I've got 10.5's out back with 305/45-18's on them. Fits nicely.

Unfortunately I was told that 315s would not fit my 9.5" rims...i got 275s and was rather disappointed. I didn't know everyones' sizes of tires are their own specs and all tires aren't the same even though they say they are. 315 Nitto 555R's will fit a 9.5" rim with no problems

I have 285/40/17's on my 9.5" rims on the rear. The car came with that size when I bought it, and they worked well, so thats what I stuck with when I got new tires. However, the fronts are only 245/40's, no need for so much width up front.

Ideally I should have wider rims, but new wheels aren't in my budget. I think 285's are about the widest you should go with a 9.5" rim, the sidewalls definitely have a pretty steep rake to them. Anything bigger I think you're really compromising the tire's geometry, which isn't good.

still... 315/35-17 are to be mounted on 17x11 to 17x13
Last time I checked 9.5" was not in that range

will fit, but not without problems and definitely not with any gains over 275s.
You chose between safety + grip vs bling... I chose the first one.

315 will fit on a 9.5in rim we all know this. Shit if I tried I could probabaly stuff and even bigger tire like a 335-345 on there.

Is a 315 or bigger recomended on a 9.5in rim? NO some tire shops will not even mount a a 315 on a 9.5in rim due to safety. If you want bigger tires get bigger rims.

They look fine to me, and in a few months when I stop posting, you guys know i flew into the ditch and hit a tree. I should have pics tomorrow.

Another reason why I like them on the 9.5" rim is I shouldn't ever have to worry about curb rash.

Nitto 555's suck anyway 315' on a 9.5 " wheel works fine, its just personal preference . so "GENO" let the shit die already, you made your pessimistic point.

nah... more fun to argue and discuss... it's a forum.
define "fine" and by which standards ? It's like saying bring your A/F ratio to 15... it's fine, i do it... even under nitrous. even though you know very well it's too lean and unsafe and looking for trouble... some will do it and be OK, yet, there is not much gain when you start getting too lean.
same with oversized tires... there reaches a point where wider isn't the safest and there is no gain... 315s on 9.5" is a perfect example... less grip than if you had 275 on it.
You chose bling, i chose performance... your choice.
why not fit a cam that has so much lift that it'll interfere w/ the pistons.. the more the merrier.
