265 45 16
So I've heard a 265 45 16 will work on a 98 trans am rear but will they fit on the stock rims and would I have to modify my fenders at all?

Kuhmo makes 265's for 16x8 wheels. They'll fit no problem. But the only tires available are Summer tires and track only tires. The 265/45-16 was designed by Kumho for the 8" wheel - to be legal for SCCA American Sedan rules.
The "optimal" wheel width for the 265/45-16 is 9.5" - but it works very well even on an 8" wheel as it was designed to do.
I have the Kumho Ecsta XS's on the rear and they're scary in the cold weather.
They are a summer tire. The other Kumho's in this size are pretty much just race tires.

Actually 255/50R16 tires are approved to be mounted on wheels ranging from 6-1/2" to 10".
The Rim Width Range for the 265/45R16 ECSTA W710 (competition tires) are 8" to 9-1/2" and the XS's are 8-1/2" to 10". But as stated in my earlier post I'm running the XS's and I have no sidewall bulge.

I am just basing it off of a general chart that I use but I did look on the tire rack and the rim widths you posted are correct.

Ok so I've got a problem and I'm sure this is why I put the 265 45 16 on the rear and I have 245 50 16 on the front the only reason I didn't buy a similar tire for the front its my budget I'm going to buy fronts next week but the problem is it feels like its floating on the highway anything over 60 is scary um sure my tire match right now is horrible but I had to change the back they were so dry rotted it was scary what's a good size tire to match the 265 45 16 for the front

Which tires did you get for the back?
I have 265/45r16 Kumho Ecsta XS's on my rears and 245/50r16 Ecsta ASX's on the front, without the issues you are describing.

The only thing smaller tires on the front will do is contribute to a little understeer.
What's your air pressure?

I have ecsta 265 45 16s on the rear and michelin pilot sports in the front and there 245 50 16s theres like a half inch difference in the tires the fronts are taller by a half inch or so could this be the problem? and its like the whole car washes back n forth on the highway like the tires have low air but i have 50psi in all four which is the max pressure for the rear and fronts

Drop your air pressure! It not good to run at the maximum. Try 35 in the rear an 32 in the front and report back after a test drive.

If tire pressure is too high, then less of the tire touches
the ground. As a consequence, your car will bounce
around on the road. And when your tires are bouncing
instead of firmly planted on the road, traction suffers
and so do your stopping distances. You'll also feel a
decrease in ride comfort

If tire pressure is too low, then too much of the tire's
surface area touches the ground, which increases
friction between the road and the tire. As a result, not
only will your tires wear prematurely, but they also
could overheat. Overheating can lead to tread
separation — and a nasty accident. One sign of low
tire pressure is if your tires squeal when cornering.
