I would suggest just scuffing it with a Scotch-brite pad, or lightly scuffing it with a 1500 grit paper. I did my 3rd brake light and side marker lights with the sandpaper before shooting the clear, and they all came out fine.

No spiderwebbing problem. I used a wax/grease remover first, lightly sanded it, cleaned it again, and then sprayed the VHT in light coats.

Its a spray can, and its black out that lets light through. Yes you can spray it on your headlights/taillights and black them out while still letting light through...
If your wanting clear/white turnsignals/sidemarkers i would just buy the clear ones....especially on a white camaro...looks great...vht would look great on a white camaro too tho....

I've been seriously considering putting Nightshade on my marker lights as well, but there is a couple steps of process that baffle me...
first... how do you apply this stuff w/o getting it on the paint? Painter's tape? Or do you take the light cover itself out?
and secondly... the clearcoating process also confuses me. How would you go about applying it? By that I mean, what form do you buy it in? Do you use a brush or a can? Things of that nature..
Thanks to anyone that can answer my questions for me!!
P.S. - I'm sorrryy for semi-hijacking your thread, I'm at work and I can't post topics for some fking reason.

Easiest to take the side marker lights and/or 3rd brake light off the car to spray the Niteshade. That way you won't chance any overspray on the car, and you can do a better job of cleaning any wax off the edges of the light.
Spray the Niteshade in several light coats, until you get the desired darkness.
As far as the clear coat, you can get a spray can of clear at Advance Auto... I used Duplicolor Acrylic Lacquer Glossy Clearcoat. This worked quite well; you can spray the clear a little heavier than the Niteshade, just be careful to not spray so heavy that you get runs.

I should add, that once the clear is dry (about 24 hours, to be safe) you can wet sand the clear with 2000 grit, and hand polish it using anything with a mild abrasive, polishing compound, etc. I have used such things as Chrome polish, Flitz, rubbing compound, etc.

Thank you very much for your reply, that answered my question perfectly.
I am assuming that taking the lamps off is easy?

Side marker lights are held in with a single TORX head screw, 3rd brake light is held in with 2.

ya i stripped the passengerside torx of the 3rd brakelight....thus i vht'ed the light with it on the car...
Now one of the bulbs is burnt out in the third brakelight and the only thing i can think to do is take it to the dealer and see if they can get the screw out...
Already bought a stripped screw removal bit (bolt-out) from sears....didnt work...
The light looks good now that the vht and clearcoat are on tho...

VHT is a company that carries a full line of Auto Paint products. They carry everything from caliper paint to engine and plastic paint.
What everyone is talkin about is their product called Nite Shades which is Translucent Black Paint that you spray on to your Tail Lights, Brake Lights, Turn Signals etc. It is basically Tint in a Spray form and works excellent! Just look at all the pics of people on here that have used the Nite Shades on their cars, and they speak for themselves!
You can purchase VHT Nite Shades online or pick some up at your local Auto Store that carries VHT Products. Trust me, I have used it and if you follow the directions that you can find on this site, they will turn out wonderfully!
Peace out
