    Under side of the hood...

Has anyone painted the under side of the hood differently than stock?

I'm thinking of doing mine different than just all white or all black... thing is, I just haven't seen much out there other than just throwing some mirrors in it.

    Here's the car now [you can see just how nasty the under side of the hood is currently];

I'm thinking of the center of the hood black, like where the ram air lifts up on the hood and then the rest will be white.

    Thoughts? Maybe

That would look awesome for car shows... Ive seen people with airbrushed stuff under the hood like names of the cars and stuff around that nature but i like where you are going with it... maybe take that to the top off the hood as well with putting black on the sides of the raised portion

You could always do like a gradiated look.. have it start white.. then blend to grey.. then to black at the other end.. Good luck with what you decide. Its always fun customizing your car with your own ideas.

That's all kind of what I'm thinking... I show my car a lot and it's normally with GM Performance so I want it to look good yet unique without looking gaudy. I may tape it out tomorrow so I can give a better example. I kind of like the gradient idea but I don't know if I have the skill to do it myself.

You could always clean the underside of the hood using a polish like TR-3.

    here's a option.......Go to" carmotorsports.com "

They make a nice underhood blanket (insulator) for the WS6 hood that looks very nice.

    Not cheap but nice.............

    This...

    (separately)

It's gonna look ghey when the spray paint cracks and/or chips/fades...

Dark over light paint will also show every single chip in the under lying color..

There's only so much that can be done with structural stamped steel..

Just my .02 good luck with it..

But he has a WS6 hood, and factory WS6 hoods are not structural stamped steel... They are SMC (which is like fiberglass), from what I remember. But I agree about the spray paint looking like ass.

If you do feel the need to spraypaint it, you can use Duplicolor Bumper Coat, which gives a nice and even matte finish, and has excellent adhesion properties. Any blemishes, just pop the hood, throw down some plastic sheets, mask, and respray... I've seen whole cars done with spray cans of Bumper Coat, and helped do one myself. It can look professionally done, assuming you smooth out the surface imperfections first with some sanding, and then spray it evenly and properly. On the car that I did, we literally used green scotch-brite pads on the back of kitchen sponges to rough up the old black paint, cleaned the surface with spray detailer and a microfiber, and then sprayed. I shit you not, it adhered just fine, but if you look close you will see the uneven surfaces in the paint/body below caused by not actually sanding it. It was a drag race only car and the pre-existing black paint was in bad shape. A buddy of mine re-did his white car in Bumper Coat and it looks pretty damn good.

If it were my car, I'd just Simple Green the underside and polish/wax it (since Simple Green strips wax). On my car I used a polish/sealer called TR-3 to remove soot marks from driving during the fires we had here in CA a few years ago, but any polish should work.

Whatever you do, don't go with red, or blue, or green, or anything crazy (unless crazy is your thing). Black with mirrors may not look too bad.

Friends car was white, had Bumper Coat spray painted over the white after some sanding was done. Berger panel was gloss black. Note - these pics are way over-exposed:

I like the idea of black and white that you mentioned. Just remember though...when you painted your intake white

It's still going to be hard to keep clean :P

Hey tep whats with the holes in the back of the hood? A idea for the hood, why not get GM Performance parts to put a big emblem under there so it'll be like advertising when you pop the hood at the shows for them.

Good eye! Could this be an aftermarket hood?

Personally, I like my mirrors. They're simple, easy to keep clean (Windex), and look good.

Looks like vents to let heat out of the engine bay...easy to do with a dremel and a steady hand.

The optional heat extractors on Suncoast hoods are cut in almost that same shape in the same location - they have metal meshes adhered to the inside of the hood on the outside-hole to prevent large debris from entering the engine bay.
