Tint
so im looking at getting some new tint as mine is peeling off, had a couple quotes all around 190 if i take the tint off myself, 100 more if i let them take it off...my question is how hard is it to get the tint off the rear glass considering the defroster is there. my dad said it would be a PITA because i would have to scrap around the defroster....how difficult is it to get this off?

I ruined my defroster on my old '91 TA by trying to scrape off old tint. So, you could pay them to do it and hold them liable if they screw it up, or I've heard of guys basically taping a large plastic drop cloth around the back glass then spraying ammonia into it and then sealing it off. Supposedly the ammonia will soften the tint overnight and you can wipe it off without hurting the defroster strips. I've never personally tried it, but I've heard it works. Hope this helps.

use tint remover its not a fun job but if you cant afford the extra $ also dont use a razor blade if you sctratch the glass the new tint will look bad

the new metalized tint is supposed to be the best.no fade or turning purple.i shopped for days, different tint shops charge different prices.my sons car is a 88 camaro and its the the hardest back window to tint and it turns out the cheapest place i found happend to be the only place in four cities and days of shopping that tinted that big back window in one piece! also post your thread on the appearence section might be more help. p.s. that tint shop i found has been buis. longer than all the others 20 yrs.

dont know if this helps. should make it easier than scrapping, just peeling.

$150 bucks for my tint, sides and rear. I imagine scraping old tint off the rear would be a PITA.

Do not scrape with a razor blade. It will scratch the glass. I just peeled the tint off and used a Shark portable steam cleaner to get the glue off. I tried ammonia, goo gone, gasoline, nothing else worked. The glue on mine was a serious pita. The Shark steamer made quick work of it.
