    stock undercarriage??

    when i got my alternator put in, my mechanic told me there might be a plastic cover missing from under the car. does anybody know about this?? maybe a picture of it?

    There is no shield in that area.

    add some tubular stuff and there is what it looks like...

    He's probably right, but the piece is just a mud flap-it's pretty much useless. I remember mine falling off on an autoX course.

    There is supposed to be a rubber flap that attaches to the mid-rail and steering rack. It's sole purpose is to protect the alternator from water and debris. I imagine that the front tire probably kicks it up in that direction, thus the need for the flap. This is the only pic I have that shows it:

    Thank you. That was my spring project. Spent lots of hours under each wheel well cleaning and painting.

    yes, the "mud flap" is what should be there to help protect the alternator from debris.

    so how would i go about getting this piece of plastic. dont really want the alt to get messed up again. also my rear driver side. i can see my exhaust i think there should be plastic there too

    Not sure if it is available from the General... you may want to try a boneyard or post in the "Parts Wanted" on this site. Some of the members have probably deleted this item from their cars. Absent that, you could simply make one from a piece of mudflap.
