shift knob - cant get it off

This is a discussion on shift knob - cant get it off within the Appearance Section forums, part of the General Help category; i need help taking it off. dosent it just unscrew?...

    um i know on the autos there is a staple you need to take a screw driver to pry it off.

    no its a 6spd this is retarded i know ive unscrewed it before its like someone glued it on or something

    there is a U clip that ya got to pull out with a screw driver. the U clip is in the front of the knob. and when that is out it will just slide off

    yes, it should just spin off. drap a washcloth or thick towel over it, and try to wrench it off with a set of pliars

    sometimes they get stuck on pretty good because it's going from hot to cold in the car. I thought I was going to break mine in my 87 getting it off. it'll go counterclockwise eventually.

    I used the towel and a wrench trick it worked great
