    Angry Rust Stains On Hood

Last winter, I stored my car in the same garage as I always used to. Well, the ceiling started leaking right over my spot at some point, and I wasn't smart enough to buy a car cover beforehand (hey, it was inside, right?). When I got my car out, a bunch of rusty water had rained down on my black hood and was sitting there for who knows how long. After I got it washed, it seemed clean, though.

Well, last week, I was washing my car and I noticed some blotches on my hood where the rusty water apparently fell. If I scraped at them long enough with my fingernail, the stain would come off, and the paint was fine underneath. However, my microfiber wash mitt doesn't do anything to the stains, and I'm afraid to use anything more abrasive.

Do any of you detailing experts have any advice on how to get these stains off? The paint seems fine underneath, and I'd like to keep it that way, so any advice would be extremely appreciated. I can take pictures, if you think that will help, but it's hard to see the stains except in the right light.
