Repainting my car, small color change?
I have a 2000 SS in NBM (navy blue metallic). I really would rather have a black car. But I dont want to do a full color change. I do like the NBM but its just not what i would like, But it doesnt bother me to much.
How do you think it would look if i was to mix a little black in with the NBM when i repaint my car? Its about due for a paintjob, i have lots of rock chips and touchup paint on it from the last owner.
Has anybody ever done this?

Pewter Metallic- 2002 Trans Am WS6 M6 D1SC
Sounds interesting but its hard to picture a shade between NBM and Black. Could be interesting. See if someone could photoshop it up for you.

Go to your local paint jobber, or paint shop and ask to see the large paint color books. There are some really cool looking Black Metalic paints. You can get a Black Metalic with dark blue flakes. Or you could get a really Dark Blue Metalic that looks black from a distance until you are up close. I think both would look nice on your car. I prefer the Black myself.
No matter where you are is where you are!

Well. I would love to paint it black. The whole purpose of painting it something pretty close is so i wouldnt have to do a color change (paint door jams, engine bay, etc).
I know that i wouldnt be able to change it TO much or else it would be extremely noticeable.

Luckily, My girls dad is the paint specialist at a carquest. So getting the paint is no problem.
Was basically just curious if anybody had done anything like this.

I have thought about doing the same thing, to try and save a buck, but have never tried it. The old saying "if it is worth doing, then it is worth doing right". I think if you did it, you probably would regret it, and wished you had just painted the whole car the color you wanted. Either which way, it is a lot of work to paint a car. I have painted several cars myself and nothing is more rewarding than to see a finished product turn out awesome. Go for it, and make yourself proud. Sounds like you already have a great source for paint and paint knowledge. Don't skimp on the paint quality, go with the best you can afford! Can't wait to see your pics! Base coat, clear coat is the easiest way to go!

Its not so much about money as much as it is the hassle of repainting the entire car.
Really, What im looking for is a happy medium, between black and NBM. Was curious on how you guys thought it would turn out.

BLK/BLK w/CGM Stripes- 2010 Camaro 2SS/M6
I think it may look cool. Funny thing is my mum's Civic, which we though is black when we bought it, actually has blue flakes in it and under direct sunlight, if you're close enough, it has a bluish tint ... wierd, but cool and caught us offguard! Try looking into the colors that came on '04 Civics

As a professional custom painter I can share your desire for a blue/black combination and I can say that Cadiallac and some foreign car companies do use pearls in black to shift the color. The one I think of right now is Cadillac's " Black Sapphire" which IS a DArk Blue, but mostly looks black until the pearl hits the sun. The new 350 z has a black with pearl that goes blue also.
