Question Regarding Cleaning Engine/Engine Bay
As the title states, I have a few questions. I am wanting to powerwash my motor and the engine bay becuase it's seen cleaner days.
For those that have done this, what do I need to cover/protect from getting wet. Stupid question, I know. But, oh well.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmm, off the top of my head i'm thinking you need to protect the altenator, the fuses, and probably the computer. I've never power washed mine, but I have used engine degreaser B4. I've never really covered anything up either, but i'd watch at what angle I was spraying the waterhose on certain parts, but of course if you're gonna power wash, most definatly cover the above mentioned up. Also, when I take the waterhose to the engine, I have the car running. It probably doesn't make any difference, but I figure with everything spinning, that's less water settling on the engine and it's components. I hope this will help

The knock sensors apparently have a strong dislike of H2O -- changing them out involves pulling the intake. That being said, I have washed our engine bay twice. With the engine cold, I soaked everything down with Simple Green and let it set for a bit. I used an old sponge on most of the flat surfaces and a small brush on complex areas to work all the grime loose.
The engine bay was then gently rinsed -- no high pressure water! I avoided spraying the PCM, alternator and not much water was used at all around the intake. I then towel dried what I could and used compressed air as well -- gently. Once everything was mostly dry, I started the car and let engine heat take care of the rest.
