Get a greay scotchbrite from auto parts store and use some water and dish soap with degraser like dawn. The clean with a wax/grease remover also found at most auto parts stores. Then some Adhesion promoter/ Duplicolor is good. Then get primer white, grey, or dk grey depending on the color it is being painted. After the primer just paint and clear coat.

Sand. Whatever it took to get that fucking SLP logo off.
Wetsand to 600 grit.
Two coats. Wetsand with 2000 grit after dry.
Two more coats.
Let sit a week.
Used stencils, taped off letting.
Obviously wiped off lid to make sure clean.
Three light coats.
Waited about an hour. Removed stencils.
Sprayed clear (two coats).

Agree, ..., sand like hell to remove the SLP imprint.
If you have access to a nice DA or most any electric sander, it'll help make it a quick job.
Wash, wash, wash, ..., clean it very well, wipe with a wax & grease remover if available.
The dishwasher helps too! Just don't let the wife know, ...
Prep is key. A good adhesion promoter helps. If you're using the spray can method, the Fusion product isn't too bad. A good heavy-fill primer will help also & you can do a quick wet-sand with 1500-2000 grit to help smooth it all out before any color coat.
Some examples:
But these are done at an auto-body shop, not rattle-can.
If you're doing a basic black, stop by your local auto-body shop & see what your guy would charge ya. If color-matched stuff may not be too extreme if ya find the right guy to work with.Last edited by PontiacFan; 01-28-2011 at 12:33 PM.

Looks clean, have so say I am impressed using sherwin Williams paint, only reason I say that is I worked for a company that used their products and sprayed my bumper over and only took 2 its for the clear to chip and flake and I know it wasn't the prep since I painted my hood a month later with dupont and it still is on there. I.just sprayed my ls6 intake the same color but with all PPG usually I'm a dupont person since it's little cheaper and same quality.
