    Ominous Glow Write-up

    Thanks for the idea MaxPlusTen!

Right. This is for an SS.

The width of the hood scoop is about 13" across. I put two 15" red LED strips in mine. Purchase said strips, and make sure they are waterproof. They'll be about $20 a piece. The ones I bought came with a battery-pack, which came in handy when I was troubleshooting the best position for the lights.

With the hood closed, remove the scoop grill. It just pops out with a bit of prying. With a wet rag, or acetone, wipe the top and bottom of the inside of the scoop, until clean. On the LED strips, one wire will be a ground, and the other needs to go to a power source.

I used a plastic coated wire coat hanger to run the wires (LED strip first) through the hole next to my hood latch. This part takes the longest, depending on how skillful you are at running wires. If you happen to buy an LED strip that is too big for the hole, then simply run it through the little intake slits on the hood.

After I ran the wires I positioned the strips with tape, in a dark garage and hooked the wires up to a source, just to see what would emit the best glow. I found that the best position is two LED strips, attached to the inside top of the scoop. About a half inch back away from the mesh grill.

Make sure that the hood scoop is warm, too. The strips won't stick if it's too cold. Anyways, stick the two strips to the top whenever you think you've found a good spot. After this step, is wiring.

If you chose to use two strips, then splice the grounds from eachother and attach them together. Do the same with each power-source wire. This will give you (basically) a total of two wires. There is a ground bolt (thing), unscrew the bolt and put the grounds under it, and tighten it.

Run the power wire through the little slot by your windshield, but under the plastic part, into the cabin of the car. From there, remove the panel of the fusebox located on the side of your dash when the door is open. Depending on what kind of control you want to have of the lights, pull the fuse, and put the wire in the slot, then reattach the fuse. I chose my dimmer switch. With the dimmer switch, you can control when it's on, and how bright it is. Also whenever you hit the lock button on the remote, it flashes with your lights and looks real cool.

After the wires are ran, it's time to clean up the appearance of the loose wires. I strategically placed electrical, and duct tape, and zip ties to make it blend in. Anyways, this concludes the write-up.

Yeah I can do that tomorrow, no problem. Need more of the final product? Or help with the install?

Thanks for the great write up....looks real good and simple - just the way I like it. Where did you get your LEDS again and what brand did you use? I am still looking around.

I got mine at autozone, but I think these ones would be the best; they have a better color selection as well.

No problemo, that site guarantees weatherproofing and you can cut the strips to whatever length you want. Post pictures if/when you do it!

Yep, just ordered two of the 9.5" red strips. Will post when I have it done...Did you have to add more wire or did yours come with enough for your application? And I am guessing 12-gauge wire if more was needed?

Yes you need to add some more wire. Should've added that in my write-up. Actually it depends on how much they're giving you with your LEDs. Also my LEDs wires were like 20/22 gauge.

I found this thread on here, but not sure if this link will work, if not do a search for daytime lights.
