Id say about a gallon and a half of paint (6 quarts). Primer, depends on the amount of body work you are doing. If there is not much, I would look into getting a sealer. Which I am ASSuming that you want the primer to cover the car for a color change. Problem there is that primer will need to be sanded, so if there is no body work its really a lot more work. A sealer can be applied on top of the paint and will not need sanding after application. But you still need to sand the whole car still for good adhesion.

Only other thing I would recommend is if you are buying good paint but a gallon (4 quarts) for you exterior and 2 quarts of a cheaper paint for you door jams, under hood, ect. Since they are hidden most of the time, no need to buy the good stuff for that.
