HID - projector/sealed beam solution?
Hey guys,
I have been throwing up and down the idea of pursuing HID headlights. From my research, I can see that the quick and easy route would be to replace the stock headlights with a sealed beam conversion kit (eurolamps.com) and then simply get an HID bulb/ballast kid (HIDKING on ebay) for a total cost of ~$200 and a few mins of your own time.
Pros:
- Moderate Install (worst case scenarios)
- Low cost
- Bright Lights and improved visibility
Cons:
- Illegal (in some states/provinces)
- Blinding on-coming drivers
- No-cut off
The alternative, obviously is to pursue the projector retro-fit style HID's. This requires significantly more work but the end result is much more rewarding and professional looking.
Pros:
- Professional
- Bright lights and improved visibility
- True cut off
Cons:
- Significant work required
- High Cost
What about meeting in the middle with a projector sealed beam conversion headlight such as this: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/8/5...10313146_o.jpg
Would this be a viable solution to be 'in the middle' of both worlds, having HID's and yet also having projector style headlights?
Thoughts?

I would love to find a nice affordable option like those projectors, I wonder if they would fit right in our cars

I would just go with the Eurolamps & eBay HID kit. Also, you could always adjust the headlight so it won't blind people.

you have to be careful with HID... the reflector/projector needs to be made to handle it because the light isnt emitted from a point source as it is in conventional headlights... more of the bulb lights up and if the reflector isnt designed to handle that it will scatter light everywhere.

I've had mine on for just over a year. Have the lights pointed down just a bit, and never have had oncoming cars flash me with their lights.

Sunset Orange Metallic- 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
Yeah, before I adjusted my 8000k I had one guy flash his high beams 4 times before he got to my car, this was on my test run right after I installed them. After adjusting them I have only had about 3 people flash there high beams at me at night in about a month and a half.
