    HELP: FRC Changes

Hey guys, I have some fuel rail covers which I need to make some changes to. These are the classic Corvette LS6 FRC which have the ribbed 5.7 molding on the bottom half. I originally wanted to sand the ribs down flush with the rest of the FRC however, I noticed I can't do that because it would burn some holes right through. So now my only option is to fill in the ribs and leave it raised.

Any ideas on how I could do this?

    thanks in advance guys.

Depends...are you getting them Powdercoated or just painting them?

    Powdercoated: JB Weld

    Paint: Bondo

They make a bumper repair kit for filling and repairing plastic bumpers -- it's a bit more flexible and may be appropriate for the proposed job.

Not sure if you are familiar with FRCs, but they are not highly durable plastic. I don't think they would hold up to powdercoating. I think you have to bake powdercoating at 400*, I would think the FRCs would melt.

agreed, but the information is still useful. It just doesn't apply to this current situation.

Silver Ghost on Tech has done them successfully. His price of $200 for a set was too high for me.

I don't log onto tech, don't know who he is. $200 is more than the set of FRCs cost to begin with probably.

I had Afterthoughts make me a pair last summer -- they look awesome and really work well with the theme of our car. My recollection is that they were around $250.00.

    How about this?!?
Yes, I sanded them off, ..., & it did require a lot of extra work.
$200 wouldn't be close to the cost! $250 wouldn't even do it, ..., for this application on the SS. If you did it for the Corvette where it didn't require any additional cutting & finishing, you might find someone who'd do it for the $250 range.

If you send them to me, I'll fill in the CORVETTE, sand down the lines, reinforce the backside, primer, and sand the primer ready for paint for $150.

Should take me about a week to a week and a half.

What do you use to fill the lettering?

wish I would have thought of asking you earlier Sandman, these are originally from afterthoughtsauto they were one of the last that their supplier put through. I think I'm going to try to just convering up the two center lines with a rigid vinyl of something kind...

Find a Rowmark Supplier in your area. Then buy some ADA material, it comes in different colors and in sheets as small as 12 x 24. You can then cut a piece to lay over the lines. This will work much better than any kind of vinyl.

Flexible Filler would be a better option IMO, ...
And you really should grind out the red paint to help the filler to adhere.
Then there's cleaner/degreasers, adhesion promoters, etc., etc., ...
The costs I had noted included the initial covers costs also, as that how I typically have sold them.
