All I can tell you from experience, is that in 5-6 years that I've been doing it & minimal people ever asking for the additional tape, I've only had one set come back that had poor prep from a different painter I used to use. Never had any issues with paint bubbles from heat. The paint is advertised as good to 400 degrees.
ah, gotcha...on a different note, did you find anything about about the chrome decals?

    Checkered Flag vs. Afterthoughts Auto

Just to let people know, there are more options for the covers on the Checkered Flag store website than on afterthoughts auto, including an option to paint an airbox lid to match the fuel rail covers.
FAST 90/90, SLP Lid, Kooks JetHot Coated LT's, American Racing Y-Pipe+Magnaflow Cats, DHM Electric Cutout, Flowmaster American Thunder Catback, HP Tuners Software, 343 rwhp.

You do know Checkered is the same source for AfterThoughts right?!?
If it's 6-8 months form AfterThoughts, you think it'll be any better from Checkered?

Yes I know that, I did read the previous posts.

You're misinterpreting what I posted, I never said the service would be better or quicker, I'm only pointing out the fact that at Checkered Flag you can also order a custom airlid to match or send yours in and have it painted. Afterthoughts won't do that. (Not trying to bash a sponsor). I believe there were a couple of other options you can also get at checkered flag that you can't at afterthoughts, can remember off the top of my head though...

As far as heat goes -- I do not have heat tape and the paint is fine.

I used my Dremel with a cutting bit...I kept trying to put them on, would cut what was blocking me, and then repeat the process till they fit properly. I then hand sanded everything smooth.

For what it's worth, ts|s will be partnering up with Afterthoughts Auto to do their FRC's in the near future.

I have been thinking about getting FRC and buying the stock letter badges (located on the door) that say TA, and installing them where corvette is written. I guess a decal could also work...

when the contract is finalized, you'll have all lettering options + finishes to choose from such as 1/16" thick brushed aluminum, painted gloss/matte acrylic, or mirrored plexi as well as vinyl.

Just spoke with Afterthoughtsauto. Deanne mentioned that she's put up an option for those of you who want to buy a precut/filled ready-for-paint set of FRC's. This eliminates the wait time for them/us to paint it. Otherwise it could be months before our contract is in full swing. I HIGHLY suggest those of you who are or know painters to purchase them as I've been told they're ready to ship immediately.
