Finally getting a ram air hood!
We've had this beast for a few years:
and its perfect, but we've always wanted a Ram Air hood.. Well one just popped up for sale!! It'll need to be painted, but it's cheap enough and looks to be in good condition..
I am curious though if it'll really be necessary to blend the fenders and bumper on her, considering the age (1999) and miles (199k), and I guess I am simply assuming the bumper and hood will match up.. Eh?
What about stripe kits? The hood has the ram air stickers and those should be able to be re-installed, but I was thinking of black stripes.. Any ready made options listed here?
I'm so excited, and the car isn't even really mine! This will be an excellent Christmas present for the wife!!

Has the car ever been garaged? If the paint is chipped or faded, then a blend MIGHT work. Otherwise you'll might need a full respray of the entire car. I'm not a body man, but I know others will chime in who are in the collision/resto business. Nice score on the hood. The striping is at your discretion.

Nope, it's actually only been garaged over the past 2 years, it was a real road whore before that.. lol
I'm certainly not looking forward to the idea/ thought of re- shooting a 200k mile car.. lol but what must be done, must be done.

White blends pretty good from what I've experienced.

Update:
The hood is fiberglass and is essentially damage free! Also it appears as though I lucked into also getting the correct air box radiator mount, so I saved a lol scratch there. I'm definitely excited to get this project going, though I have yet to see if I can afford it.
Anyone here got any extra ram air screen inserts they'd let go for cheap?

if done correctly, all you will need to do is blend the tops of fenders and bumper....make sure to use correct paint codes

Jiveass, thank you for the advice, we're making quite sure to use the right codes.. I know first hand what happens if you don't! lol
SSSLP, was able to pick up a new set from GM for around the same as they were going for on eBay, so it's all good there.. Now we're just waiting til Christmas to wrap this up! (Prolly not frankly, I dunno if I can wait that long! lol

If possible, keep a picture journal and post it on here. Some of us enjoy time-based build threads.

Well I'm not completely done yet, but the paint is applied!!
Before:
After:
Next step is decals and mounting all the hood shock mounts and under hood stuff, then mounting the air box.. Hopefully I'll get that all done this weekend!

These photos are taken in our body shop (I'm a salesman at GM dealer) that car in the background is a customers Vibe that got sideswiped on the highway..
Here's the (almost) finished product, still waiting on the ram air stickers. For now we've opted to leave off the hood stripe kit, but I think it would look good... We're gonna surprise her with it tonight!

Agree^^...even though paint codes are correct hopefully the painter will get the exact hue/tinting correct although with white it wont be as hard as another color could be and sometimes painting different material ie: metal-fiberglass-plastic can also make a difference but i think youll be ok! OOps didnt read the whole post! before commenting BUT hey looks great!! They did a good job and that hood looks cool!

Looks badass... it was a very happy day when i upgraded to ram air hood.
Fyi, maybe it's just me but it looks a bit high behind the headlight. There's a rubber stopper there that you could screw down for adjustment. Maybe it's my eyes.
Beautiful either way.
