    Exterior Trim Removal

I decided to go out on a whim and remove the trim off the doors and the quarter panels this afternoon after cleaning up the car. It took about 1.5 hours to do both sides, which consisted of removing the trim, using WD40 to remove the left over residue, and then waxing back over the area once done. I took both before and after shots...

Items used: Extension cord, GF's Hairdryer (finally a good use for it), WD40, Wax...

It makes the car look so much cleaner, IMO...

if you go slow and dont literally rip off the molding, you will have no paint issues. we went slow doing it on my car. my GF heated up the area and would slowly pull it off and i would follow her by removing the adheisive compund while it was still warm. then i would go over the area again with WD40 to remove any of the remaining residue, and then made another pass with wax once done...

your front fenders and doors are composite plastic and your rear quater panels are metal. the molding is also either a composite plastic or hardened rubber. as for them being different colors, that is possible because of sun and weather factors, or optical confusion. i would think that unless your car has sat outside for the last 5 years your paint will be fine and you would not have any discoloring issues...

here is a picture of some guys TA who took off the side trim off his car...

I've been debating on this mod for my Camaro. It'd be nice to give it a cleaner look but I worry about getting any inadvertent door dings.

well today i was going to tackel this job, but after looking at my Z i see taht the molding actully flow with my lwr g efx. call me old fashion but the g effx stick out past the body a lil and soo does the moling. its like it compliements each other soo i decided not to do due to personal pref.

but IMO looks good if i didnt have the g efx, still love both soo dont hate

Wow! Looks good! Came off cleaner than I thought that would. Luckily GM doesn't add plastic brackets behind them hooking them to the body requiring extra body work and paint like some other companies *cough*Honda*cough*.
