    Engine Bay Painting

I'm planning on doing a H/C/I swap along with some other small power adders over the summer, and when I have the engine out of the car, I wanted to paint the Valve Covers and Intake Manifold.

My question is this...what kind of paint should I use? and how should I prep the pieces before hand?

If your going to have the engine out I would take the time and have them powder coated. If you want a cheaper route just go to any auto store and you can buy engine paint...you can get it thats good up to all different temps.

Definitely powdercoat the valve covers. Powdercoating the intake is not a good idea. There are a few threads in this forum where people painted their intakes. Sand it down real good if you want it smooth.

i used engine enamel on that valve cover for my daily driver, and its been two years and looks like hell. though i dont think i properly prepared the surface - i only cleaned the surface with brake cleaner and didnt scuff or prime first.

Primer is almost a must when painting anything yourself...and before primer wipe it down with mineral spirits or just rubbing alcohol is fine.
