aftermarket shifter ball

im looking to get this firebird encrested shifter ball but im not sure if i need the one with the tail or not? i have the stock T-56 tranny if that helps, i know it says it threads onto to it but whats the point of the tail then??

Do you have a short stick? If you do go with tailless.
If you don't go with the tail.....

I bought a white hurst shift knob with the 1-6 shift pattern on it the other day, and it only fits a hurst short throw setup not my stock shifter. I almost cried after I waited a week for it only to see it dident fit.
