Tire shine bad for wheels?
quick, possibly dumb, question... When I wash the car, i spray tire shine (turtle wax brand right now..) on the tires and unavoidably overspray on wheels... I have noticed, even though I attempt to wipe off the overspray, that there is a residue left on the wheel. Afraid that in addition to being unattractive that this may cause long term damage. Anyone got tips on avoiding this? different brand spray or maybe some type of wheel prep to resist this?

I spray mine on a little hand mitt. You can use a cloth or towel, then just wipe it on the tire

good advice - thanks! anybody have more info? don't understand why this product that is obviously going to contact wheels would leave hard to remove residue??? on my bird had a wheel that had unremovable residue that was there when i bought it. Wonder if it was a result of this same thing?? don't want to make this mistake..

the cheapest thing you can try rain-x applied to a clean wheel to help keep the brake dust and other grime from sticking to the wheel ... mothers brand wheel polish will help with that problem also. but my personal favorite is Wicked Products brand... they have a whole line of stuff for your entire car, i wont use anything else but it isnt cheap ... the only place i know to get it is wickedproducts(dot)com

I don't use sprays on my tires for that exact reason.
Currently I'm using Black Magic Titanium Tire Wet Gel. It's a thick gel you put on with the supplied applicator sponge. Doesn't really have any slinging also, if you let sit before driving, as the instructions say.
Not a direct pic, but shows the glossyness:

Thank you!!
Yeah, I will eventually. I want to be able to do all of the supporting mods at the same time.
Of course I can't decide on what to do first really.
Full Exhaust - Still undecided on who to go with (maybe true duals dumping in front of the axle, maybe something custom where it dumps out the sides in frong of the rear tires using kind of flat camaro tips)
Four Heat Extractor Hood
Complete Suspension (Struts - Springs - Relocation Brakets - Adjustable arms and bars - Control Arms - you know, the works)

Don't get the spray on the wheel at all!
There are commercial wheel covers made that are nothing more than glorified garbage can covers. They cover the wheel and prevent the overspray onto the wheel itself. The cheap alternative is to take a large cardboard box and cut a circle out of it that's the size of your wheel (16 or 17, whichever). If you cut it the right size, you can stuff it into the wheel opening and the edge bead on the rim will hold it in place. Cut a hole in the center of the cardboard so you can pop the cover off easily. Cheap and efficient!

to get rid of any residue on them now, will cleaner wax you use on paint work fine? Same clear coat over polished wheels right? Have some of that around..

I use Mothers power ball mini and their aluminum polish on mine.

I have recently found out that you need to make sure to not apply it too thickly. If so, it will sling all over the place, and for a long time as it doesn't just wash off.
