Tinting Windows
Well, I'd like to take my current tint off because it has bubbles in it. So any tips/threads on how to tint windows? All shops around here are charging 150-180 for JUST the hatch.

you'd want $180 if you had to attempt it..... there is so much curve in the hatch window is almost impossible to get it tinted perfectly, not to mention the dot matrix. my buddy payed 120 for the rear window of his stang, he went to a well know and reputible tinter, it came out decent, it still has bubbles around the dot matrix area though. my camaro has the same problem, the dot matrix seems to be a big problem for tinters, sooner or later they will come up with a way to fix it. when i was first looking into tinting my windows i thought the prices were rediculas, so i did my own. took my time and they came out great, tinting takes alot of skill and patients, once you do it yourself you will understand why the prices are so high.

I tinted side windows myself, got to rear hatch and had a couple friends come over to help, figure more hands the better to fit it better. I gave up, used razor knife to take off the two I had already done myself so the pro guys would not know I failed then took it to a shop and had them all done.

I payed $200.00 for the two sides and rear hatch done with 3M tint. They did a good job but I found 2 spots where the scratched my glass from cutting the tint on it. Apparently the put the tint on the outside of the hatch first and trim it before they place it inside. Of coarse they said they didnt make the scratches. MF idiots.

yes... most good tinters will sand it down but it will usally look kind of "cloudy" around the dot matrix because it doesnt stick as good as it does to glass

if its that big of deal to somwone, they can buy a rear window w/o the defoger, find the best tinter, or just put a black viynal over the exteroir of the upper rear window

Mine cost me $180 for both door windows and the hatch glass. These guys did a different approach. For the hatch, they stopped the tint right where the dots start, and then filled in that area with a tape (like electrical, but really wide). When they finished, you could not tell they just covered it with tape.

The hatch has been tinted now (with no problems) for 5 years.
