    Question about glazes

Ive heard it is always necessary to follow up with a Glaze after any type of polishing was done on a vehicles paint. Is really true or is this only necessary if you want the ultimate shine?

    Yes, and no
Yes, a glaze can help hide minor imperfections or micromarring left by an abrasive polish and wool pads, but with the proper technique of following up with a foam pad, and a milder polish, it may not be necessary to glaze
I'm a fan of glaze regardless, it does add the "wow" factor to your paint, and like you've said, the ultimate shine
Glazes have their cons and pros. Depending upon what you use, you can select the right glaze for the right job
If using carnauba wax, RMG (Red Moose Glaze) is a fantastic glaze to use under carnauba wax on black and red cars. It does have some filling abilities that can help hide minor swirls, and have decent durability for those who like to wax once a month or two, or for a car that is kept garaged

Another type of glaze is Prima Amigo Glaze, or Danase Wet Glaze which are two of my favorites because they're polymer based, darken black paint to a nice gloss and serve as a good base for sealants to adhere to, and provide long lasting protection. All those 3 glazes I use, and like them a lot...

^ +1 for Red Moose Glaze- really made my black Z look "wet" and "darker". Love that stuff.

I see. I know most seal Glazes with carnauba wax. Can they instead be sealed with a polymer sealant like zaino, for ultimate durability?

Zaino will not bond to glaze, unless it's a polymer based glaze. If you have Zaino products, or would like to use zaino, I would recommend you get their new ZAIO and top it with either Z2 or Z5. With the ZAIO you won't need to use the ZFX or the old Z1 for it to bond or cure properly...
Another route will be getting some Collinite Wax; either the 476S or the 845 Collinite for durability as well. 476S is what i got on my Z06 right now for the winter...

One thing to add to what Goose said, the ZFX is not a must for it to cure. The ZFX just accelerates the curing the process and allows for you to do multiple coats within a 24 hour time period. Zaino will cure on its own without the ZFX though.

Ya i need to get some of the ZFX. Ive been layering coats of Z2 within the same day without realizing there was a 24 hour curing time.
