    Old Rustproofing Removal

Does anyone know a good product that will remove the sprayed on rustproofing without hurting the paint? I want to clean off the rustproofing that was sprayed on the wheelwells in the engine bay when the car was new, my T/A is white and the wheelwells are now black, it looks like hell.

You can gently heat the old coating with a propane torch and it will scrape right off. As it is asphalt based, any commercially available lacquer thinner should also dissolve it. I have found that a paint stick with the end cut square works great for scraping the coating off without harming the surface beneath. If you do not like either of these options, there are also products made by Eastwood that are specially formulated to remove undercoating.

Thanks for the help - again. I don`t think I`ll use a torch but, I do have a heat gun, didn`t think of that until you mentioned heat. I`ll try some mineral spirits for final clean up after the heat.

I just bought a heat gun several weeks ago, so I have never tried it. No reason it shouldn't work just as well though with how hot it gets.
