How to fight sand/salt spray
Happy Holidays everyone....well kind of. At least for me in the Northeast, the holidays/winter can only mean a brutal beating on our cars. But the thing that really bothers me is the sandblasting on the paint that we get from our ridiculously wide tires right at the bottom of the wheel wells (if you're still unsure what are i'm talking about, just look at the dirty water streaks left behind your tires). Thank god those parts are made of a composite, but anything with a gel coat can still oxidize. I can't think of anything else short of going out there once a week and washing and waxing those areas. I was actually glad that it rained when i was driving home last night just because i know it would wash all the sand and salt off from the last snow storm. But I want to know how you guys deal with this and similar problems.

Ummm,,,,get yourself a cheap beater car for the nasty weather. Thats really the only way to fight the nasty salt. It's what we have done for the last 20 years of this crap after too many expensive body shop bills.
Or,,,you can do what we are doing now,,,bought a house in Arizona to get away from this crappy weather all together

you ain't kiddin'. we've already had more snow this season than we had for the entire season last year.
At least for now, this is my daily driver, so I gotta figure this out. Someone's gotta have some other ideas! I mean whether you live in Seattle or San Diego, you get at least a little sandblasting from time to mine no matter what kind of weather you have

Don't think there are any precuts for behind the wheels on our cars.......There was one at one time for nose though....
I've seen where you can buy this film by the Sq. foot and cut out what you want. This can can put it on and off very easy so you should'nt have to worry all that much what it looks like.
Do a search on Google. You'll find on there more than you might really want to know.2000 NBM WS6

doesn't 3m make that wrap stuff that you can apply to your front end, and it protects it from rock chips. you cant even tell it there. seriously. it just stays on because because of statuic friction. then peel it off, and your car looks like percefcly brand new. thats what all the supercar owners buy.

There are some pre-cut staic plastic for the areas behind the wheels for Corvettes. I'm sure they make them for F-Bodies as well. It's just a matter of doing a google search
Also, if you go to the Griots website, you'll find some Spray-on Bra that can be sprayed on to protect your car. It comes in a can
Here it is: http://griotsgarage.com/product/car+...tection+bra.doLast edited by Z06-Goose; 12-29-2007 at 07:55 PM.

all a bra is going to do is eat your paint and keep water in....
get a "beater with a heater" keep that salt off the car

These clear bras will not do either of those. Its almost like putting on a really thick tape on your car. My brother has a clear bra on the front of his mini cooper S. It is only noticeable once you get close. Its been on his car for 2 years now and looks just the same as the first day, no peeling at the edges or anything. Like others said I'm sure if you search you can buy the stuff by the sq ft and cut it how you need it.

I still feel you need to purchase a beater car. You have the same sickness that most car nuts get eventually. You buy a car and realize it's too nice to drive everyday, so you park it in the garage and purchase another,,,before long you have a garage full of nice cars that you don't drive (don't ask me how I know),,,,,,,pretty soon after a few years you have a nice collection of stuff,,,,and a beater to drive so you can keep them all nice.
Trust me,,,you have the early symptoms of this disease,,,this is only the beginning,,,make sure you find a wife that understands
I can't imagine winters up there where you are. Here in Ohio they are bad enough to make us move west,,,,and we are mild compared to you guys. I would migrate to warmer weather when the opportunity presents itself. Happy New Year.
