black- 1998 Camaro SS
best thing to fix a chip
i had my black 98 ss in the garage doing h/c/i install and had it up on jackstands. I didnt remove the hood (bad idea). well it was all good except for if you wanted to open the garage door u have to put the hood down. well i told my brother this but he seems to forget things. he opened the door right on my hood. took a chip off the front edge and a 1" scratch after that. whats the best way to repair this until i can repaint the entire hood?

For the chip. Touch up paint will probably be your best route. That is, of course, assuming it went all the way to the paint. Which from your post, I assume it did.
For the scratch. If it only scratched the clear, try using a scratch remover.

Ever heard of Dr. Color Chip??
I've never used it myself, but apparently its supposed to be pretty good, much better than the conventional touch up paint pen. I see it advertised quite a lot, might be worth a try.

just use an artistic brush, much smaller. You probably could get some paint for free at a bodyshop specially being black. If they are cool they give you a tiny bit of paint
