Common problem - get one locally with a lifetime warranty. Easier to replace the second time around, no drilling rivets required.

Autozone or advance auto sells them for about 50 with a lifetime warranty... important, because it'll go out again, and again, and again.... Someone once told me that it's a sealant problem, and water gets in them and they resultingly croak, anyone know if that's true and how to protect it?

You can switch the motors, but not the regulators. It doesn't make sense to switch the motors - they are pretty cheap.
The problem with the window motors is that the voltage regulator in the motor goes out.

Driver side motor in my 00 Camaro-vertible z28 went out not too long ago... it kept getting slower and then just got stuck.... it was going to cost 375 to replace so i had a friend of a friend whos a mechanic fix it and he scratched the SHIT out of my mirrored tint ...but I guess for only $75 I can't bitch too much
Speed limits were made to be broken....

I have never had one go out yet, but I keep a silicone lubricant in the channel the window goes through closest to the mirror, seems to help with speed of window going up and the off balanced problem. The first year I had my car I noticed the window would hang going up, so cleaned out the channel and all was good, so now when I detail the car I just clean out the channel and spray a light coat of silicone and all has been good.
