tailight is melting!!!!
my left brakelight has a huge dip in it right across from the bigger light bulb. I took it all out and looked at the bulb and it was black on one side yet not burnt out. and the tan socket is was in had brown-burnt edges on it. I replaced the bulb with a new one and my brother felt the bulb while I held down the brake pedal and said it got rediculously hot in just a couple seconds. my right brakelight doesn't have this problem. what's up with this?

my taillights are stock, haven't done anything to any of my lights except replace a blinker bulb in the front.

Speakers wouldn't have anything to do with it....
Is it only one bulb that's getting hot?

I looked in the booklet and it said that the bulbs were the correct replacements. and there wasn't any rust or corrosionin the socket.

Bulbs do get hot, you do know dat?
Check all your other sockets too, on both sides.......
Everythig else works fine as far as the turn signals, etc., right?
Just replace both sides with the new bulbs and let's take it from there.....
Let me know tomorrow.

let me start this post with one of these: .
well I found the problem. and it was a wrong light bulb. the old one that was all hot was a 3157 bulb. the stop lights are supposed to be 3057's. I didn't notice the number difference since I only glanced my manual. I thought the bulbs were originals, but I guess they weren't. I just went and bought the correct 3057 bulbs, and thought I'd check out the right hand side bulbs. turns out the one on the right was a 4157 K. glad I checked. I ended up checking all the rest of the bulbs while I was at it to make sure the old owners didn't mess any of those up. they were all good except the two brake light bulbs. so what do the numbers stand for anyways? is a 3157 hotter than a 3057?Last edited by bluefields88; 02-05-2007 at 07:54 PM.

I'd like to know too so I don't ever have to change a bulb again or maybe until I'm like 50!

can you buy LED lights that plug into the stock sockets? I know absolutely nothing on the subject.

so just to make sure that I found the problem, could putting a 3157 bulb in a 3057's socket cause it to make all the heat that melted my taillight? or should I look for a short.
