    Stupid Question

    So I'm replacing my speakers and adding amps.....everything is hooked up, power to the amps....just won't turn on. Now, when you put a test light on the remote turn on wire it should light up right?????

    You should be getting power to the wire remote lead going back to the amp. Maybe a fuse? The amp power light is on?

    This.

    Take your test light and test the power from the remote wire to the ground post on the amp itself. If the light doesn't work, try a different ground. Should solve issues at the amp.

    what exactly wont turn on? the amps? the radiio? speakers? ...the remote wire merely sends a faint signal to the amp telling it to turn on..im not sure if there is enough juice there to power the test light.....best way to test that i have found is run a jumper from the hot wire on the amp to the remote terminal and see if you get power then...and what did you do with the factory amp (if equipped)? did you totally take it out of the equasion? ..using factory hu? more info please?

    The light doesnt even come on from the hu though. Is it possible that part of the hu is bad?

    Ok...this may sound dumb but it has happened....I once forgot to put the fuse in the main power block at the battery...also if the fuse holder is used, check to make sure it's got a tight grip on the fuse....and I would still try the jumper from the hot terminal to the remote terminal.

    Also, some hu's come with 2 remote leads which both are blue....one for amp, other for power antenna....make sure you are correct there a well. What's the model #'s on the hu and amps?

    I just saw this post lol...umm yea check all fuses, even the one in the back of hu...if all is well then I would pull the hu and bench test it strait to the battery and see what happens....did u get a harness adapter? Is the red and yellow hot wires connected correctly?

    Hey first test that hu by hooking it up straight to a battery...this will tell you for sure if it's good or bad

    You can run the remote wire to a switched source. Use the switched wire going to the headunit. Unless you just want a new headunit.

    I agree here.

    It typically takes 3 wires to fire up a HU. Sometimes the HU's actually label the wires, if not you can look up the model number or contact the manufacturer for which ones are which.

    Usually go as follows;
    Red = Switched Power (so it isn't running the whole time, killing your battery while not in use)
    Black = Ground (common connection to complete circuit)
    Yellow = Constant power (memory purposes, may not be needed) This can be wired with the positive terminal of the battery with the switched power, but make sure it's the correct one.

    These wires are much thicker (smaller guage #) than the rest, the switched one might be smaller than ground/constant. Sometimes red and yellow are swapped, meaning red is constant power and yellow is switched.

    Let us know.
