    ?'s about replacing H/U

looking at replacing the factory H/U. According to crutchfield I'll need an extension kit which will make the unit stick out about a half inch. Has anyone used this and how does it look? They also said i'll have to cut out the rear factory supports. My car has the monsoon in it and it sounds very bad. Are most people working with the factory setup or replacing it?

iv had the extension kit on my old Trans Am and i personaly do not like it. it makes the deck stick out in the middle of nowhere but thats my opinion i like clean looks... now if you want to have it more flush with the rest of your car instead of sticking out you Must cut the factory support because it is in your way when trying to set the deck into place....

Thanks for the replies. I'm really torn about which way to go. The whole monsoon the thing has really got me confused (even after reading speaker swap thread). Thanks again.

X3 on cutting the rear support. a clean install is worth it and the chassis supplied with the head unit is sufficient to support it.

i've played a lot with the monsoon stuff and have only recently finished my system and moved 100% away from the factory monsoon parts. it's worth it.

All the bracket does is steady the factory head unit. That's it. Cut mine when I did the double DIN conversion and I made brackets that hold it the HU steady. Just cut it out- you'll be good.
