Don't worry about it....people that aren't familiar with it or their options for upgrading just don't understand that the Monsoon system can be upgraded very easily. If you think Monsoon systems are tough to deal with - don't try to work with any other premium systems because a lot of them are a lot more difficult to work with/understand.

There really isn't much wrong with the Monsoon system besides the fact that factory speakers blow like crazy. This is due to cheap speaker build quality and the distortion put out by the Delco HU (NOT the Monsoon amp).

Replacing the HU is the BEST place to start, IMO.

the only reason the speakers blow is people turn the volume up too loud causing the speakers to distort, thus they blow.....the monsoon system is very adequate for what it is.......its never going to win an SPL contest, it wasnt meant to........ive had mine for 5 years and its good as the day i bought it...........if your going to just replace the speakers you will most likely face the same problem........although aftermarket speakers will take more punishment, you will eventually blow them too.......the amp is just not efficient enough......

The amp is fine - almost all of the distortion comes from the Delco HU.

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

never go to best buy. Period. They are idiots unless it's a 4 speaker/4ohm system.

you don't NEED a new HU it's just a recomendation to achieve a better sound. [i don't like aftermarket HU's b/c the monsoon has the eq band that is right there-no pushing buttons to get to bass/mid/tre controls]

Most people put Infinity 67.2i's in the doors and either delete the back seats for a sub or replace the stock subs with Elemental Designs eu700.

Yea, but the original poster owns a Camaro - not Firebird.

most I have seen steer away from the Infinity speakers (not for any reason in particular) -- guess it depends what forum we're on..

No, I like them. I was wondering if anyone has used them on their cars. I have used the subs before, and they're very nice, but I haven't used any of the smaller ones. have you used the smaller speakers? I don't have any of them anymore. I had to be 'smart' and sell them when I enlisted.

If you replace it you need to use component subs in the rear passenger seats b/c the wiring in them is made for bass and filters out the higher sound (pretty sure of this).

It's actually the amp that has the LPF. If you want full range there - just pull the hatch wires forward, or tap into the HU (all aftermarket or Delco, except on stock Firebird HUs).

Yea for those that opt to keep everything factory -- most people with Firebirds go with separate components to keep the factory tweeter location. Most Camaro owners don't know about 62.7is and end up using one pair of wires, or running new ones from the HU. Infinity also has a reputation of being too bright (aided by the fact that the tweeter is 2 ohms and not 4) which steers some people away -- as well as the price. I know a LOT choose them, I just don't think it's most.

Yes..but Camaro Delco HUs dont have the 6 band EQ like Firebirds do...they only have a treble and bass knob...
