Radio Power Switch Stuck

I can't turn my CD player/radio off. The switch is one of those you push for on and off. For the longest time, I've just been leaving it on, but every now and then, I have to take the battery off and figure out some way to mash it in enough crazy ways to get it to turn back on, which usually takes hours. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this switch?

It's a 1998 TransAm with single CD player/AM/FM.

should go off when the door opens. and key is off.

After smashing it, chances are it's broken. You cant buy individual parts for it, so one way or another you need to buy another HU. You could try and take yours apart and see if it's simply something physically broken, and then swap some parts out of another "broken" HU. But if it's something electronic (which you may not be able to figure out), you'll have to find a working one. Goodluck.
