Opinions On Radar Detectors
Last week I was driving down the street when a cop came out of nowhere and pulled me over. Fortunatly the officer let me off the hook with a warning. I'm sick cops sneaking up on me and thought it's time to invest in a radar detector. Just wanted to know what you guys have and whats your opinion towards them. Want a quality product without putting a major dent in my pocket book. Inputs appriciated.

My favorite detector was my 10 year old battery operated BELL. It was smaller than a pack of cigarettes ,light weight & could be fel-cro to my rear view mirror in all three of my vehicles. Don't make um anymore. Now I use Pass Port battery powered unit. Not really any better than my old BELL. Both were $350.00.But the new one has VG-2 ,but its quite a bit larger & heavier. Like you I just want to know when they are around.

You wont have too much luck with a radar detector because the patrol officers use whats called a POP method with a VG2 laser radar...which means, they can "see" if you have radar detectors AND when he pops you its too late...but UNLESS you are in a pack of cars of a car is ahed of you and that car gets popped and you pick up the radar signal, then you should have enough time to slow it down before he gets you.

the newer ones all have pop detection, which you should invest in. i have one and it's definately saved me from a couple of tickets. the way i look at it is the detector costs $250, but a single ticket would cost almost that much, PLUS the added cost when your insurance goes up as a result. so even if it only saves you from 1 speeding ticket, it's paid for itself.

As mentioned, this is one of those areas where you must invest more money in than the typical <$100 Circuit City detector, etc.

just yesterday i went out and bought the beltronics 955. i got it because I had read some good reviews on it .. comes with pop and all the other good stuff. today in the morning i was at a light and it picked up a k or ka band.. it was beeping slowly at first for about 5-10 seconds and then it started beeping faster.. sure enough there was a cop that pulled up behind me, so i think it is working good so far but it will have to go through some more test. i read it was the best radar for under $200.
