I know they are not a great name brand but Pyle and Boss make a 1/2 din dvd,mp3,cd player that runs about $150.00. That combined with an indash monitor for about $170.00 puts a 7 in. TFT LCD and DVD that fills in the 1 and 1/2 opening in GM/Chrysler cars for $320.00. Not bad in my opinion...especially if your funds are limited. Also makes install alot easier using the space given. I know the name brands are where its at..I been doing car audio since 1988 but some of this stuff (off brand) is suprisingly reliable. It's more of a factor of admitting you put something in that doesn't say Clarion, Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Eclipse, etc.

Maybe it's being too much here, but could you guys give more specific name brands and model numbers so a complete electronics newby like myself can walk into a store and say "I want this unit". It would help out alot.I like both the units pictured there, sweet!

Check this out...SANYO ECD-T1580DV. This is not one of the "off" brands I was speaking of. Sanyo makes some of the best TV's on the market according to consumer reports. They just don't market their car audio stuff very well. This unit can be had for $500.00 new with shipping on ebay. If you plan on walking into a store to buy your equipment then plan on paying twice as much unless you have a friend working there or something that gets you a discount..a major discount. On average car audio is marked up about 200% to 300% or more at places like circuit city, best buys, even crutchfield. They have staff and stores to maintain so it's way more expensive for them to do business. Ebay and other online stores offer warrantee and are way cheaper. If you know someone who has access to a supplier...now thats the bomb. Then you get to see what they buy the stuff for...you'd get pissed if you saw those prices and then see what it sells retail for. Anyway, enough about that..you asked for specifics: SANYO ECD-T1580DV, JVC KD-AVX1 (600.00 at hhgregg...400-420.00 on ebay), Pyle PLDVD115 (110.00 ebay) combined with: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-7-INDASH-HI-...QQcmdZViewItem now you'd have a 7" TFT LCD monitor with DVD player that fits in factory opening for what?...$300.00 or there about. These are just ideas and ways to acheive a system for the cheap but still get what you want without getting ripped off.

What your calling a scam is a COMMON mistake. The item your looking at is a monitor and a monitor only. It does not play DVDs, CD, or anything else. This is why I said "combined with". You need the DVD player for it to work. Heres the one I was refering to: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BOSS-DVD-400...QQcmdZViewItem
Although I've seen it cheaper. Combined with that screen it would fill in the factory opening perfect. Heres the Sanyo indash DVD/6.5 LCD combo: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Heres two other indash combo from Jenson and Boss: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BOSS-6-5-TFT...QQcmdZViewItem
    and: http://cgi.ebay.com/JENSEN-VM-9410-N...QQcmdZViewItem
Those three all play discs. The other one doesn't and requires a seperate player. Of all these three the Sanyo is the best one as far as quality and you won't miss .5 of and inch in size for the screen.

I found a couple that might be able to work but it will need a little modding. Nothing a dremel can't handle...I'll keep looking though. Check this out: http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...0&autoview=sku
I'm thinking you might be able to fit the DVD part in the lower area. Man if that fits what a clean install with the factory trim ring over that. You still need side brackets to put the screws in though. I've seen them in other kits. Check here and see if something works also: http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/home.php?cat=544
Just found this one: SCO-GM1583B. It's on the summit sight for $9.95. I tryed to post but it just listed the same summit sight again. Page one after the above summit link..it has a picture. This one looks like it could work the best...has the side brackets built in and you'd just have to remove the back of the lower opening for your RCA outputs. Keep looking though to make sure. Good luck with your system!!
