Need help picking out a head unit
Well like the title says I need help picking out a head unit but not for the camaro but for the wife's shit box on wheels.
It currently has a cheap ass walmart headunit in it b/c i bought it used for $20. For her wedding/bday present at the end of this month I am going to get her an Ipod. So the headunit has to be able to accept the Ipod. For the function of the head besides the Ipod I would like the ability to hook up a budget pair of subs, amps, and speakers.
I have always liked Pioneer but I am really open to anything. Anyone have any suggestions for a "budget" headunit that fits my needs.

Navy Blue Metallic- 2000 T/A Firehawk M6
I wouldn't be so quick to count out Pioneer. Their premier head units are consistently rated among the best sounding and performing units on the market. They have excellent pre outs and tons of features and some very good signal processing. I forget where but i read an article that had my premier as the second best head unit of any price on the market with some eclipse model taking the top spot.
for 180 i'd go with either the Pioneer DEH-P610BT or DEH-P510UB
The rundown:
DEH-P510UB Price 175 shipped
specs:
Here
Dual USB
Advanced Sound Retriever - makes MP3's sound better
Bluetooth ready - needs adapter
Sat radio ready
HD radio ready
3 sets of RCA outs with 4 volts - most only have 2. more volts better signal.
2 way crossover with separate high and low pass settings.
Aux input for any source
Ipod dock cable is inclued
the 610 is nearly identical... the only thing I can see right off the bat is a little different front panel and bluetooth is built into the 610. the 610 can be had for 198 shipped.
Both are from pioneers premier line so they have adjustable crossovers and slopes etc and when using external amps you can turn off the internal amp for a cleaner signal.
For 175 I can't see you doing much better than a stereo that can take some great external equipment and play nice with it and its already capable of BT sat radio and HD radio. It also already has the Ipod dock included!!! so 175 final cost and you are ready to rock the ipod.

If it is not going to be a surprise take the wife with you. She will be the one to use it so make sure she will like the way the controls are layed out. Most hu's today have ipod hookups and controls.
